Responding to story feedback

When you post a story for review, you should be prepared to respond to other members’ feedback. This tutorial shows you how to read and rate comments, how to respond to your feedback, and how to submit a revision to your original story.

Find the “Your Stories” section of your member home page. You should see a list of all the stories you’ve submitted, along with a very brief list of things you have to do as the author of the story.

Click on the “Unread comments” link in the navigation panel to take you to the unread comments. All unread comments are marked in red.

For the first week your story is under review, you will not be allowed to make comments. Just read all the feedback and decide which comments make the most sense.

Notice the “Rate” link at the bottom of each official review. One of your jobs as the author is to rate each official review from other members.

Click on this “Rate” link.

Here is where you rate your feedback. The rating is kept confidential, so be honest. The main purpose of rating feedback is to help identify members who are “cheating” with their feedback, but in the future, we may use the ratings to reward members who give consistently strong critiques.

Click the choice that best describes the comment, and click the “Rate” button.

After one week of silence is up, your member home page will suddenly show “[Author’s Response]” next to your story. It’s time for you to reply to your feedback. Click the link to take you to the comments.

Authors post their responses in one of two ways. Some just type the entire feedback all at once in a single message.

You may also respond individually to each message. Click the “Post followup” link at the bottom of a comment to reply to a specific message.

You may also send private email to most Fish Tank members. If you have a comment you’d rather not share with everyone else, click the “Email” link at the bottom of the message to send email to the member who made that comment. You will be taken to an email form where you can send a private message.
